Various Disease of Eyelids and Lacrimal System: Surgeons here routinely perform procedures like DCT, DCR, Extropion, Entropion and Lid Surgery.
Lid Injury: Lid injury, should be treated immediately and repair should be undertaken to make the lid as close to normal as possible.
Lacrimal Pathway Disorders: Any blockage in lacrimal passage causes watering. The causes can be incomplete development, seen in young children, or infection, which occurs in adult life. Treatment is surgery like Dacryocystectomy (DCT: removal of lacrimal sac) or fashioning an alternative pathway to drain the tears to nasal cavity called Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR).
Lid Margin Abnormalities:
- Extropion: Lid usually turns away from eyeball. Treatment is surgical rotation of the lid margin and its alignment with the eyeball.
- Entropion: This is inward turning of eyelids, causing eyelashes to scratch the cornea, producing irritation. Corrective surgery is required for permanent cure.
- Trichiasis: Misdirection of lashes. Removal of offending lashes or corrective surgery relieves symptoms.
- Ptosis: Drooping of eyelid can be present from birth or develop later on old age. Surgery involves either strengthening of the muscles, called LPS resection, or lifting up the lid with the help of a groft.
