Retina

Retina is the third and inner coat of the eye which is a light-sensitive layer of tissue. The optics of the eye create an image of the visual world on the retina, which serves much the same function as the film in a camera.

The common diseases that affects the retina are:

  • Retinal Detachment.
  • Retinal Vascular Diseases, e.g. Diabetic Retinopathy, Hypertensive Retinopathy, Venous Occlusions, Arterial Occlusions etc.
  • Macular Disorders, e.g. ARMD, CSR, CNVM, Macular Dystrophies.
  • Vitreous Hemorrhage.
  • Anterior Segment Complications – Subluxated Lens, Dropped Nucleus, Dropped IOL, Eudophthalmitis.

Various diagnostic modalities are there in Bardhaman Eye Care Nursing Home to detect these disorders.

Diabetic Retinopathy:

DR is a common retinal vascular disease affecting 40% of Type 1 diabetics and 20% of Type 2 diabetics.

Everyone with diabetics should get a comprehensive dilated eye exam at least once a year. It is symptom-less at early stages. By the time symptoms appear, it becomes too late to stop the process. The golden rule in diabetes is “Regular, frequent dilated eye examination”.

Diabetic Retinopathy Detection:

  • Visual Acuity Test.
  • Dilated Eye Examination.
  • OCT / FFA

Treatment:

Intravitreal VEGF, Laser Photocoagulation.
